Vacher is my fifth great grandfather. His son, Charles-Francois Vacher dit St. Antoine came to Poste Vincennes, Indiana in the mid-1750s. He was one of ten children of Antoine and his wife Marie-Margeurite. Charles was notable in that he signed the Vincennes Oath of Alliegance against the British, and fought under Col. George Rogers Clark at the Battle of Ft. Sackville against the British General Hamilton. He received a land grant from the Continental Congress for his assistance. The Vacher/Vachet family became quite large, and i grew up in the Frenchtown section of the town, surrounded by descendants of the old traders and trappers who founded it.
BTW, I'm also a dirct descendant of Pierre You de La Decouverte and his wife Marie-anne Sauvagessee (Miami).
I stumbled onto this site looking for earlier descendants. Not certain how to collaborate or pass on the information I have.
